Born in Christchurch to Samoan immigrant parents, Ioane graduated from the Elam School of Fine Arts in 1985. Since then he has had many solo and group shows and was included in Bottled Ocean, an important touring exhibition of Pacific Island artists, as well as in The Fourth Window - a series of sound art installations at Artspace in 1995. Ioane teaches at a secondary school in Thames.
