Philip Dadson, an important
figure in New Zealand art since the mid-1970s, is our leading sound artist.
He founded From Scratch, an ensemble known for their dramatic presentations
of minimalist compositions for tuned percussion instruments, designed
and built by Dadson. From Scratch have performed throughout the world,
released many recordings and are the subject of a film by Gregor Nicholas.
Dadson represented New Zealand at the SoundCulture festivals in Tokyo
in 1993 and San Francisco in 1996. He is a senior lecturer in Intermedia
at Elam School of Fine Arts.
